When do I book my session?

It’s never too early to book your newborn session! Newborn babies are best photographed 4-10 days after birth when they are still curly and sleepy, so it’s best to book your session before you deliver.

What do I do next? What do I bring to the session? What should I wear? I have lots of questions!

When you book your newborn session, we will start planning for it right away! I will email you a questionnaire and some planning tips. About a week before your due date I will send you a welcome packet via email. This packet contains all of the information you will need to prepare for your session including what to expect, what to bring with you and what you can do to help your session go smoothly.

Children and Family Portraits

What time is best for my child who takes a nap?

If you have a little one who naps, it’s best to schedule your session for after nap time. If this is really difficult because of the time of day then I suggest we schedule as early in the morning as possible to avoid shooting close to nap time.

How long is the session?

From start to absolute finish – meaning the moment you get out of your car until the moment you get back in it – plan on a minimum of 90 minutes. Often it is less – 45-60 minutes, but sometimes it’s more and there are a lot of reasons this could happen. Kids need stuff: diaper changes, a tissue for a runny nose, a snack or drink, just a few minutes to calm down or lighten the mood. It’s best not to rush them too much or put too much pressure on them. If you allow enough time for your session and don’t have to hurry them through you’ll have a happier kid and get better photos.

What should I bring with me?

If you have a prop that you want to include in your photos or an item that is important to you, by all means bring it with you and we will include it. If you have a toy that makes your little one smile, bring it with you. It’s helpful to have something I can show them that’s familiar if they’re having a little trouble getting comfortable in front of the camera. It’s also good to bring a little snack or drink. It’s amazing how a few pretzels or slice of apple can hit the spot and turn a frown upside down.

How do I get my little one to look at the camera?

I have a few tricks up my sleeve and I’m glad to have your help. I only ask that if you want to try to make your little one smile that you get right at my level and close so that I get their eye contact through the lens.

Engagement Sessions

When do I book my session?

I am booking about 2-3 weeks out. Etiquette for save the date cards and general wedding announcements states that they should be sent about 6 months prior to your wedding, so if you want to use your photos for this purpose then you will want to plan your session no later than 6 months before your wedding.

How long is the session?

Please allow two full hours for your session from start to finish.

What location should we use for our photos?

We will work together to find the best spot for your session. There are many places around the city that offer gorgeous scenery, but you want to pick a place that either has some meaning for you as a couple or reflects your style. Once you book your session we will talk about your style and how you want your photos to “feel,” and this will naturally lead us to the right place.

What should we bring?

If you have any props you’d like to include, please bring them. If you want to change your clothes during the session, please feel free to do so. If you want to incorporate a pet, I’m glad to do it as long as you realize that your dog (or cat or bird or pot belly pig) may or may not cooperate. We might get the shot you want, but we might not.

Maternity Sessions

When do I book my session?

Maternity photos are most successful when taken between 34 and 36 weeks. Try to book your session before you reach this point.

How long is the session?

Please allow at least two full hours for your session from start to finish.

What should I wear?

The belly is the star of the show, so you want to wear something that shows it off. You want to avoid anything that has a panel that covers your belly or is so loose that your belly gets “lost.” This is the ultimate celebration of your body as a woman, so I encourage you to embrace this opportunity and try your hand at being fearless for a few hours. Wear good undies if you think we might see them in a photo!

What should I bring?

A strapless bra (preferably white) and a tank or cami (any color).

What about dad?

Hopefully, baby’s dad will join us for a few photos. If so, he should simply be dressed comfortably and in clothes that look good next to yours.

General Information

How long will it take to get the disc?

It takes about 3-4 weeks for me to edit your photos and deliver your disc to you. I do my very best to honor this quote, but I also have three children and sometimes things happen that prevent me from working in the evening. If I am running behind schedule I will let you know.

Do you offer prints, albums, announcements, etc.?

Yes! I use a world-class lab and they create gorgeous prints, canvases, press printed products and every other product you can imagine! You can call me or we can set up a time to meet and discuss your order. The order is placed when it is paid in full. It takes about 4 business days to receive any product orders.

What about proofing?

I don’t really do it. I’ve found it to be a lot of wasted time for me and for you. The best photos from your session are very obvious. Just as you would never choose a photo in which someone had their eyes closed or was making a funny face, neither would I. If I have the wonderful problem of having a handful of photos that are just wonderful but I’ve already chosen 20 other excellent ones I simply add them to your disc. You will have every fantastic non-redundant picture from your session. If you really want to proof then we will set up a time to meet so you can sit down and make your selections.

What if I have to cancel?

I ask that you let me know as soon as you can if you can’t make it to your session. We will reschedule for the next possible date. If you wake up the morning of your session and you realize you just won’t be able to make it, call me. We will work it out and find a date to make up your session. If your child is sick, please call me to reschedule. A sick little one needs all their energy to go toward getting well and I appreciate your help in keeping my family healthy as well.

Do you have a studio? Where do you take our pictures?

I currently live in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania where I have a little studio space in my home that is just the right size for newborns and babies.  Otherwise, I am an on-location photographer serving the greater Pittsburgh area.
